Sh**ged, Married, Impressed: podcast stars visit Sunderland baby bank

Husband and wife superstars Chris and Rosie Ramsey have recorded a very special episode of their hit podcast Sh**ged, Married, Annoyed at National Lottery-funded project Love, Amelia.

During a visit to Love, Amelia’s headquarters in Sunderland – Chis and Rosie’s hometown – they chatted to Steph Capewell, the inspirational mum who founded the organisation following the death of her daughter. Baby Amelia survived for just 12 minutes after she was born at Sunderland Maternity Unit in January 2018.

While she was at the Maternity Unit, Steph met an expectant mother – a teenager – who had told no one she was pregnant and had made little preparation for the birth. Steph decided to donate some of Amelia’s baby things to the young woman and the seeds of Love, Amelia were sown.

Steph said, “I asked a midwife at the hospital what would happen to families who come in with almost nothing for their little one. She said at best it was a store cupboard with some baby clothes and a few nappies.”

Steph and her husband Phillip decided to help out by raising funds for the hospital and putting some of the baby things they’d bought for Amelia in boxes and donating them to expectant mothers. She said, “We put 12 boxes together initially – one for each minute of Amelia’s life. We put some clothes, toiletries, nappies, face cloths and towels in them as well as some maternity products and a little teddy bear. And we included a letter that was signed ‘Love Amelia’.”

After becoming a registered charity in 2019, Love, Amelia has grown dramatically. In its first year, its baby bank – a facility offering donated items such as clothing, nappies, toiletries, prams and cots – helped 50 families. Last year it helped just under 4000 families.”

You can hear more about Steph’s inspiring journey and the way Love, Amelia is helping families with the support of The National Lottery, by listening to Chris and Rosie’s special episode of Sh**ged, Married, Annoyed.

Rosie said, “We had a fantastic morning with a lovely bunch of people. It was so good to go there, meet everyone and have a natter over a cup of tea.”
