National Space Centre, Leicester
How do you go to the toilet in space? You’ll find the answer to this and much, much more when you become a trainee astronaut at the All Earth Space Agency. Learn to moon-walk and control your spaceship before setting off on a bone-shaking spaceflight. On 12th May look out for Q Pootle 5 (the animated CBeebies show) when he zooms in from planet Oki Doki.
Great Orme Tramway, Llandudno
Before the Hogwarts Express there was the Great Orme Tramway. Ride on Britain’s last remaining cable-operated street tramway, which has been in operation since 1902. Open seven days a week, enjoy a ride in beautiful coastal surroundings.
The Lowry, Salford
From weekly First Steps dance workshops for the under-fives (and their groovy parents) to weekly art activities in the Lookout – a dedicated family space where you can all unleash your inner artist - there really is something for all the family at The Lowry.
Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield
The UK’s first sculpture park, the space features over 100 sculptures spread out over 500 acres. For families there’s an outdoor learning area and studio space for the kids to have a go and show their talents.
The Mary Rose Museum, Portsmouth
Just how tough was life on a Tudor warship? Come and see for yourself. Don’t miss the opportunity to turn magpie and trawl through the 19,000 pieces of treasure that came up from the ocean. There’s even a bit of dressing up if that floats your boat.
Kew Gardens, London
Let the kids go wild. At Kew they can crawl like mini-beasts, get a birds-eye view from the treetop walk or live like a badger underground. They can also discover the deadliest seed, the sneakiest flower and the smelliest plant. What’s not to love?
National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth
A group of jellyfish is called a smack. Octopuses have three hearts. Wow the family with your oceans of knowledge and explore Britain’s deepest aquarium (just mind the sharks).
Glasgow Science Centre, Glasgow
It’s not rocket science. Except it is. Really. Come be inspired by the rocket science, then get down and dirty with your hands by making your own magical lava lamp, building a midge eater for the garden and making your very own constellation viewer. Star struck.
SS Nomadic, Belfast
Step back in time to a world of glamorous cross - Atlantic travel and a ‘Titanic’ experience on board the last remaining White Star Line ship. With a former passenger list of celebrities including Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, set sail for a trip of pure imagination.
