Tenovus' Choir supports through song
Lottery-funded Sing with Us is a choir project for anyone affected by cancer – whether a patient, survivor, family member, carer or bereaved loved one.
The choirs are fun, uplifting and friendly, and provide a strong support network for members who meet weekly. You don’t have to be a good singer – every voice counts!
Wales is renowned for producing world class singers from Tom Jones to Katherine Jenkins. Now, people affected by cancer are getting in on the act through charity Tenovus' Sing with Us project. Over 460 people are registered with their choirs across Wales and are enjoying a boost to their wellbeing as well as a fantastic support network.
We can tell when someone is having a bad day, but we make sure everyone leaves with a smile on their face.
The choirs meet weekly for rehearsals and perform regularly at local gigs.
Rosie Dow, Sing with Us Manager said: "We have received fantastic feedback from choristers about how much they enjoy singing in the choirs and how the support they have received has helped them both emotionally and physically. As well as the choirs themselves, all choristers also have access to Tenovus’ wider support services including counselling, benefits advice and treatment."
Choir member Alan lost his partner Linda to cancer in March last year. Alan explained, "I was Linda’s carer so when she passed away, everything came to a stop, and a massive gap was left that I needed to fill. I was invited along to the first meeting of the Cwmbran choir, and although I was a little apprehensive, I soon fell in love with singing and being part of the choir.
"It’s like one big family. We are all linked by our cancer experiences and can tell when someone is having a bad day, but we always make sure that everyone leaves with a smile on their face."
