You're getting women active, raising cash and changing lives

Last year you supported the groundbreaking campaign, 'This Girl Can', inspiring women across the UK to take up sport with its empowering message on body confidence.

Now the Lottery funding body that runs the campaign, Sport England, has joined forces with Sport Relief to encourage even more women and girls to "get active, raise cash and change lives".

The 'This Girl Can' mantras that got over a million women active, have been specially adapted to say that fundraising is just like being active, it's not how much you raise or how you do it, what's important is that you are doing it and having fun, while raising money to help people living challenging lives. The new mantras include, 'Slow fundraising beats no fundraising', and 'We need your sweat patches'.

Lara, 23, from Newbury is the star of the 'Every Red Face Counts' film. When she was at school she was put off P.E. by her lack of co-ordination and felt intimidated by other girls who she believed were naturally much better than her. Then she discovered running. Even though at first she could barely run a mile, Lara's confidence began to improve. She loved the fact that it wasn't competitive and the only person pushing her was herself.

"I love being involved in This Girl Can. Even though I’m bright red and a bit sweaty in my film, I don’t mind as I think it's really important to show images that other women can relate to," she said. "It's great to think that by being part of the campaign, I might have inspired someone to get active." To see Lara's film, click on the link above.

Over the weekend of 18th March, Lara and her mum will be joining in the fundraising. Lara's mum will be trying to swim 100 lengths and Lara will be running for however long this takes her mum to complete the challenge.
