£1Million win shocks electronics company syndicate

A syndicate in Scotland is celebrating after they won £1Million. Many of the 19 winners not only work together, but are also family. Each lucky player netted £52,600.

Company founder, John Scott, 75, his wife Kathy, 72, and their two children Julie, 49, and Steven, 45, are all part of the winning syndicate. Collectively that means they’re getting a staggering £210,524. The rest of the group is made up of employees at electronics firm Icom Scottech, a family business based in Kelso, Scotland.

The company’s managing director, Lee Jackson, 41, is the syndicate leader, but it was Carol Colebrook, 52, who bought the lucky ticket. She then slept with it under her pillow overnight to keep it safe and rushed in the next morning to share the news with Lee, nearly throwing it at him in excitement.

Carol’s sister, Shirley, 56, is part of the syndicate too and she was the first person Carol told about the win. While Lee also shares the jackpot with his brother-in-law Adam and there’s a second pair, also brothers-in-law, who are part of the winning group.

Lee is especially pleased as he’s about to get married. Lee said: “Everyone planning a wedding has the stresses and worries of how they are going to pay for everything but that has now disappeared for us.”

The win means he and his fiancé can plan the wedding and honeymoon of their dreams. Once they’ve tied the knot they’re planning on heading to Cyprus, where they’re going to volunteer at a dog sanctuary.

The small town of Kelso has been filled with excitement over the win and Lee explained “everyone is over the moon for us, our next-door neighbour here is a car dealership and the manager has already paid us a visit with some business cards - he may well get some sales out of this!”

The winning ticket was purchased in Asda, Galashiels. The winning numbers in the 6th July draw were 24, 30, 44, 50, 56, 57 and Bonus Ball 9. The National Lottery not only changes the lives of winners like the members of the Icom Scottech syndicate, but also funds good causes across the UK, with players raising an average of £30Million per week for National Lottery-funded projects.
