Single jackpot winner poised to break Lotto record

A new UK lottery record could be set on Wednesday 9th December. With an estimated £22.6M jackpot up for grabs a single winner could become the biggest Lotto winner in history.

The largest Lotto jackpot ever won is £22.5M scooped by a couple of work colleagues from Hastings in 1995. Mark Gardiner and Paul Maddison worked together running a double glazing business when their six numbers came up. Iris Jeffery from Belfast became the largest individual Lotto winner in 2004 when she won £20.1M.

If a single ticket holder banks the entire jackpot on Wednesday they will immediately set a new national Lotto record. A win of that proportion would see any winner able to change their own life and that of the family and friends around them.

The National Lottery has now created more than 4,000 millionaires and it currently adds more than six every week to the total. To find out how many millionaires are near you visit our Millionaire Map of the UK.
