Find out where we had to open a millionaire market stall, complete with butlers, to cater for all of the big National Lottery winners.
We've delved into our data banks to reveal the luckiest postcodes in the country. After crunching stats, including winners who have gone public and those who have preferred to remain anonymous, we can reveal that Essex is leading the nation for lottery luck.
The unique stats show where you are most likely to win a major National Lottery prize. The Romford (RM) postcode in Essex has more major prize winners per head of adult population than anywhere else in the country. It is on the podium with Teeside (TS) in the North East and Warrington (WA) in the North West, which placed second and third.
The full top 10 is:
1. RM – Romford
2. TS – Cleveland
3. WA – Warrington
4. L – Liverpool
5. IG – Ilford
6. ME – Medway
7. NP – Newport
8. NE – Newcastle Upon Tyne
9. WN – Wigan
10. HA – Harrow
Well done to the top 10, although there are also numerous big winners and millionaires in every corner of the country. In fact, a massive 4,250 National Lottery millionaires and more than 6 new millionaires are created every week.
On the up
The prize-winning stats have also been split by date to reveal which areas are on the up. Over the past two years Cornwall has nudged ahead of the game with the Truro (TR) postcode boasting more big winners per head than anywhere else. It is followed by a Scottish pair of Paisley (PA) and Kilmarnock (KA).
Leicester (LE) has had the most major prize winners across the past 2 years with a massive 63, more than 1 a fortnight. And G (Glasgow) has celebrated the most millionaires over the past 2 years – an eye-watering 21 in just 24 months.
The giant Birmingham (B) postcode remains top of the pile for big winners since The National Lottery began. The 'second city' is definitely in first place, with a whopping 1,180 winner of prizes over £50,000. It also accounts for 127 of the 4,250 millionaires The National Lottery has created so far.
Even more millionaires
Lottery luck is on the up with The National Lottery making more millionaires than ever before. This year Lotto has not only had its biggest ever jackpot (£66Million) but also created its biggest ever winner (£35Million). EuroMillions had a record setting 2015 with more jackpots won in the UK than ever before (9). The National Lottery GameStore helped players win bigger than ever, including Ross Hearst from Northern Ireland who won £4Million on a Scratchcard.
And it isn’t just individuals winning big. Each National Lottery player helps to raise over £34Million every week for Good Causes, which in 2015 funded over 29,000 individual grants. You help fund our athletes competing at Rio, the nation’s arts and heritage, and many thousands of projects in local communities across the UK – thank you.
