Scratchcard winner is rushing to the aid of medical staff

Lorraine Knott, 47, works as a trainee nurse and was having a particularly bad day when a National Lottery winner came to her rescue.

Before her 12 hour shift, working in the coronavirus pod at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Lorraine discovered her car had a flat tyre. Then, on her way home after her shift, the car broke down completely.

And that’s where Jamie Heavens, 26, stepped in. He won £1Million on a National Lottery Scratchcard in 2016 and now runs his own car breakdown service – and is offering to help NHS staff when he can.

Jamie said, “As soon as I saw her NHS badge, I told her that the job was for free – her face just lit up! It’s such a challenging time for so many people at the moment, we all have to pull together and help out where we can.”

Jamie, himself a key worker due to the essential breakdown service that he offers, wanted to do his bit to help others where he can and posted on social media that he would offer free breakdown recovery to any NHS staff in his patch during this time.

Jamie said, “I know the NHS staff are doing such a fantastic job and I just wanted to do something to show how much they are appreciated. It was great to be able to help Lorraine, and there is never a good time to break down but after a 12 hour shift at a hospital right now, I can imagine it’s particularly difficult!”
