Many happy returns as Cheryl scores Set For Life win
Birthday gifts don’t get much better than this. Cheryl Crowley, a primary school teacher from the London suburb of Brent, has won £10,000 every month for the next year thanks to a National Lottery Set For Life ticket given to her inside a birthday card.
Cheryl said, “The ticket may have been mine but the win is definitely for all 3 of us. Dad is always saying that 1 day it will be our time, and that we would have a big win. We love his optimism but I honestly didn’t believe that anything this wonderful could happen. I’m delighted dad has been proved right after all.”
The family’s National Lottery adventure began when Jade bought a selection of Lucky Dip tickets for the Set For Life draw on 6th May, 2021 – the day before Cheryl’s birthday. She popped them in a card and gave it to her mum to open the following morning.
Cheryl said, “I was enjoying a morning cup of tea as I opened my birthday cards, and laughed when I saw Jade had bought Set For Life tickets. I used my National Lottery app to check them, not for a second expecting to hear the bell that announced a win. I certainly did not expect to look at my screen to see a win of £10,000 a month for one year!”
Wasting no time, Cheryl called Camelot to confirm the amazing win before sharing the wonderful news with her dad. She said, “Dad was absolutely over the moon. It has quite literally made his year and possibly his decade!”
Jade was also thrilled. She said, “I was on the school run when mum called and said 1 of the tickets was a winner. When she said exactly how big a winner I just couldn’t believe it.
“It’s hard to explain what this will mean for the 3 of us. My mum is just amazing. She's been a primary school teacher for 15 years but still found time to care for an aged relative and help with my 3 kids. She deserves this so much.”
How will the family celebrate? Cheryl is already planning a special Father’s Day trip to the bingo and a family shopping spree.
Cheryl said, “If the past 18 months has taught us anything, it’s to take nothing for granted and to make the most of every moment. So, while we’re not planning exotic holidays, we are going to enjoy our time together, whether it's shopping sprees, bingo adventures or day trips to the coast.”
