Open Week - Royal Shakespeare Company

Bill and Scarlett open up about National Lottery Open Week

Please note: this offer has now ended.
Opening yourself up to new places and new experiences can “unlock huge joy and satisfaction” and help “forge deeper connections with friends and family”, says comedian and musician Bill Bailey.

Bill was speaking in the run up to National Lottery Open Week (9th-17th March 2024), an event which sees hundreds of National Lottery-funded venues across the UK offer free entry and discounts. It’s our way of saying thank you for the £4Million our players raise every day for good causes**.

Bill and TV personality Scarlett Moffatt are both ambassadors for National Lottery Open Week this year. They teamed up recently to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, just one of the amazing offers available as part of this year’s National Lottery Open Week.

Scarlett said, “As a new mom, life is brilliant but busy and you don’t always get the chance to get out and try something new. That’s why Bill and I loved visiting the incredible Royal Shakespeare Company. It was a great opportunity to open up to the wonderful world of National Lottery Open Week. The best part is that you can too! I want to encourage everyone to take advantage of the free and discounted offers and head outside to explore some of the fun and fascinating things the UK has to offer.”

Bill, who has tried his hand at diverse activities ranging from paddleboarding, to ballroom dancing and birdwatching, agreed. He said, “It always surprises me how much you can learn about yourself   and the world   from putting yourself in new situations and trying different things. I never expected to become as proficient as I have in some of these activities nor did I imagine how much fun I’d get out of them.”

Meanwhile, new research from The National Lottery suggests many of us yearn to spend more time exploring the world instead of looking at social media.

The research reveals that one out of four people (24 percent) consider scrolling through social media a genuine hobby. Four out of ten people (41 percent) admit to spending most of their free time scrolling on their devices and watching TV instead of getting out and enjoying cultural pastimes and nearly one out of ten people (8 percent) admit they don’t have any other hobbies.

But the research also revealed a third of people (34 percent) recognise the amount of time spent on social media is stopping them pursuing other interests and almost a quarter (23 percent) are considering nixing their social media accounts to free up time for other activities.
